The golf swing is a “swing”. When the clubhead is lifted, the approach to the ball can be steep. This leads to erratic shots and inconsistent distances.
Try this on your next practice session. Grip a short iron lightly, hold it above ground as a normal setup (choke down a little), and make some slow swings thinking about where the clubhead is. Make a circle by starting with a “3 to 9” movement (bottom of a circle) and allowing the swing to go higher on both sides. Strive to feel the clubhead and keep the arms long…no lifting, or extended arms, just a smooth swing. Watch how your body responds to your arms and begins to turn. The whole secret is to relax and feel the clubhead.
Soon you’ll be hitting consistently longer shots because your swing sequence will allow the power to be released through impact. You’ll like the ease at which things happen. Your tempo just got better!
